Not fully aware of the dangers of adventuring, she sees her assistance in fighting to be minimal, the work for mercenaries and soldiers. She would be very competitive with any who also claim the role. Although not a high priority, she wants to know what the connection between her and her ancestor means, and feels the Loremasters may be able to help.Įclair sees her role in an adventuring party as the researcher and scholar. There is also a part of her that wants to understand herself better, to know what exactly happened to her a year ago. After all, there's far more to discover in the world, and she's interested to see what else is out there. Eclair knows that she'll have to earn her place though, and first she has to do some tasks for the Loremasters before she can pursue her personal interests, which she is fine with. In turn, she believes her own talents will be of use to them, perhaps a bit too overconfident in her magic, and her ability to discover and discern secrets. She headed for Vanca, where she could join the Loremasters.Įmboldened by her new power, and interested to learn about her family's dark past, Eclair feels that the Loremasters are a perfect fit for her. When the time was ready, she set off into the world, with a single destination in mind. She learned the master the few spells that were granted to her, learning to cast them with unnerving accuracy even at a distance. She learned how to defend herself, at least more than a normal girl her age. That voice, belonging to a very old, very powerful Mornfell, gifted her a small piece of its power that day through the old tome.Įclair spent the next year preparing herself for the world outside. Something in her heart told her the truth, that this book was about her family. Though she herself had no inclination to hurt others, to cause any pain in the world, she did find herself wondering about the source of their power, about where some of their lost artifacts were. Eclair found that she wasn't repulsed by what she read, but instead fascinated. Indeed, many of the rumors (though not all), were true, and some of history's greatest villains were related by blood. In it, she found the long, bloody history of House Mornfell. She wandered into a hall she did not recognize, finding herself grabbing a book she did not know. However, Eclair could not escape her heritage, her future, and one fateful day a couple weeks after her fifteenth birthday she heard the whispers. Though inquisitive, Eclair grew a bit arrogant when she realized she knew more than most people, which only pushed her to delve deeper into the tomes. If they tried, they never found the girl, and she grew up reading and learning about the world, about its history, its faiths, of the nature of magic. It was a place where Eclair could learn and grow, but more importantly, a place where she could be safe, to hide away from anyone pursuing her. It was for this reason that Eclair was stolen away when she was but a babe by a servant at the bequest of her mother, and sent far away to an old abbey dedicated to the Scholar's Pantheon. Whatever the truth, there certainly are a number of cruel members, including Eclair's father. It's hard to distinguish truth from legend, as the House is often claimed to be led by a liche, to consort with succubi, and that their ancestors knew ahead of time about the spell that would eventually create a backlash and create both the Tieflings and Aasimar. Although House Mornfell was certainly powerful and well connected, it also had a checkered history, producing its fair share of criminals, necromancers, and worse. Eclair was born to a young noblewoman and her husband, one of the infamous scions of House Mornfell.
